The following changes have been made to the data.
Asset Classes
Starting with the data from 2001 returns, the Internal Revenue Service changed the reported asset classes. The asset classes, in thousands, are now:
In previous years:
• | The data at the lower end of the scale was divided into 1-100, 100-250, and 250-500. |
• | The top range was 250,000 and over. |
Reclassification of Tax Items
The "Taxes Paid" data element reports license fees and other taxes a business incurs, but not income taxes. It has been reclassified as an operating expense. The "Income Taxes" data element has been reclassified as the income tax number. This change has been applied to all years of data.
