File Operations

Overview

On the Evaluation Screen, the first section of the toolbar contains standard file commands. These commands are explained below.

Toolbar File Commands

New

Select the New command to create a new evaluation. If you have made changes to the evaluation you're currently working on, BESWeb will ask what you want to do with those changes. You can save them before you proceed, abandon the changes, or stop creating a new evaluation and continue editing the current one.

Open

Select the Open command to open an evaluation you previously saved.

If you have made changes to the evaluation you're currently working on, BESWeb will ask what you want to do with those changes. You can save them before you proceed, abandon the changes, or stop creating a new evaluation and continue editing the current one.

You open an evaluation file using the Open File Controls. For help using these controls, see the steps below.

Open File Controls

  1. You can select a file stored on the ValuSource server, or on your own computer. To select a file on the server, select Open an on-line file. To select a file on your computer, select Open a file from my computer.
  2. If you're opening a file on the server, select it from the list. If you're opening a file on your computer, click on the Browse button and locate the file.
  3. Click on the Open button. BESWeb will load the evaluation file that you selected.

Close

Select the Close command to close the current evaluation. If you have made changes to the evaluation you're currently working on, BESWeb will ask what you want to do with those changes. You can save them before you proceed, abandon the changes, or stop closing the evaluation and continue editing it.

Save

Select the Save command to save your evaluation to a file. If you're working on an evaluation that has been saved on the ValuSource server, the file will be updated automatically. If you're working on a new evaluation and haven't saved it yet, or if you saved the evaluation to a file on your computer, BESWeb will present the Save File As Controls. See below.

Save As

Select the Save As command to save the evaluation under a new file name. BESWeb will present the Save File As Controls. For help using these controls, see the steps below.

Save File As Controls

  1. You can save an evaluation file on the ValuSource server, or on your own computer. To save the file on the server, select Save to an on-line file. To save the file on your computer, select Save to a file on my computer.
  2. If you're saving the file on the server, you can overwrite an existing file by selecting it from the file list, or you can create a new file by entering a name in the File name text box. You can rename and delete the existing files using the buttons below the list.
  3. If you're saving the file on your computer, enter a name in the File name text box.

  4. Click on the Save button. If you're saving the file on your computer, your web browser will ask if you want to open the file or save it. Select to save the file, then assign it a file name.
  5. If you save evaluation files to your computer, you may want to save them to a folder that only contains BESWeb files. That will make it easier to find your evaluation files when you want to open them.
