Inserting an Optional Content Command

Please Note: You can only specify optional content in report templates. You cannot insert an Optional Content command into a report.

To insert an Optional Content command:

Step01Select the Conditional Cell

Please Note: Remember that the cell you select must evaluate to True or False.

Select the workbook cell that will determine if the report content is included or excluded.

wTo link to the report's Analysis file, select the content from Analysis Mode.

wTo link to a standard Excel workbook file, select the content from Workbooks Mode.

Step02Copy the Link

Click on the Copy Link Button in the Desktop Toolbar. You can also select Edit | Copy Link.

Step03Select the Paste Location

Go to Report Mode and select the spot in the template where you want the link to appear. The command will be added at the insertion point.

Step04Paste the Link

There are two options for pasting an Optional Content command. These options both appear on the Edit | Paste Link into Report submenu and the Paste Link Drop Down Menu off of the Paste Link Button on the Desktop Toolbar (click on the down wedge section of the button).

wPaste Optional Content pastes the option using its column and row address.

wPaste Named Optional Content pastes the option using the linked cell's range name. If the cell doesn't have a range name, this option is disabled.

The Optional Content Command Dialog Box will open.

Step05Enter a Name and Description

In the Optional Content Command Dialog Box, enter a unique name and description for the Optional Content command. The name and description are not part of the content and do not appear in reports generated from the template. They indicate and explain the purpose of the content. When you are done entering the name and description, click on the OK button. The dialog box will close and the Optional Content command will be inserted into the template.
