Step 4: Dependents

In Step 4 of the case project workflow you enter data for the plaintiff's dependents. This data is used in Step 5 to calculate the value of household services.

Dependents Data and the Household Services Calculation Methods

The data you enter for dependents is used in different ways for the two methods of valuing household services:

For the Manual Calculation method, the data is used to determine when each dependent receives care from the plaintiff.
For the Apply Dollar Value of a Day (DVD) Data method, the data you enter about the plaintiff's children, specifically the age of the youngest child over the course of the damages period, is used to determine the DVD data that is applied to household services events.

Note:

If you only use the DVD Data Methods to value household services, then you do not need to enter any dependents other than the plaintiff's children. Dependents classified as Elderly, Disabled, or Other are ignored by the DVD Data method and are only used by the Manual Calculation Method.

Entering Dependents Information

You enter dependents information in the Dependents Workspace.

1.Click on the Add button. The application will open the Edit Dependent Workspace.
2.Use the workspace to enter the dependent's information. For help see Dependent Settings.
3.When you're done click on the OK button in the upper right corner of the workspace. The application will close the Edit Dependent Workspace and add the dependent to the data table in the Dependents Workspace.
tog_minusEditing an Existing Dependent
1.Click on the dependent you want to edit.
2.Click on the Edit button. The application will open the Edit Dependent Workspace and load the dependent's settings.
3.Use the workspace to edit the dependent's information. For help see Dependent Settings.
4.When you're done click on the OK button in the upper right corner of the workspace. The application will close the Edit Dependent Workspace and return to the Dependents Workspace.

1.Click on the dependent you want to delete.
2.Click on the Delete button. The application will prompt you to confirm your decision.
