You select an event's type from the Event Type menu:
There are two categories of household services events: standard events and custom events.
Standard events are linked to the dates of the underlying data. For example, the Retirement Date event is linked to the date specified in Step 2: Retirement Age and Life Span. If you return to Step 2 and change the Retirement Age settings, the date also changes for the Retirement Date event. This is true for all standard events. If you change the date when a job starts or ends, or the date when care for a dependent starts or ends, the date for the associated household services event will change automatically.
There are three groups of standard household services events: major events, employment events, and dependent events.
The major events are three significant dates in the damages period: the Injury Date, the Trial Date, and the Retirement Date. For help setting these dates see the Dates inputs in Step 1: Case Setup and see Step 2: Retirement Age and Life Span.
An employment event occurs whenever the plaintiff begins or ends a job. They appear in the menu as Start Job and End Job. For help entering the plaintiff's jobs see Step 3: Employment.
A dependent event occurs whenever care starts or ends for a dependent. They appear in the menu as Start Care and End Care. For help entering the plaintiff's dependents see Step 4: Dependents.
As you may have already guessed, you define custom events yourself. Use them to add events not already defined by the application that affect the plaintiff's performance of household services. For example, if the plaintiff gets married during the damages period you could add a custom event at the wedding date. Another example is the relocation of the plaintiff's household. Moving to a new home can affect what services the plaintiff performs, and if you are using the Dollar Value of a Day (DVD) data, the regional adjustment that should be applied.
